Harvest Festival Organizers Encourage New Ideas, Announce Contest

June 19, 2008

Thousands of people attend the Winkler Harvest Festival and Exhibition every year; and of those thousands, it’s conceivable that some of them might have ideas how to make the Harvest Festival better. That’s what the committee directors are hoping as they unveil a contest to encourage new ideas for the festival.

Deb Penner is the Director of the Festival. “They say two heads are better than one. In this case, we’re inviting everyone to give us their ideas on how to improve the Harvest Festival. Whether you have thoughts on how to improve parking, new activities, kinds of entertainment, we want to hear it. We’re also interested specifically in ways to make the Festival more “green” and how to give the entire city more of a festival atmosphere.”

The Harvest Festival will begin accepting entries immediately and will continue to accept them until Monday Aug 4, 2008. Shannon Loewen is the Assistant this year. “We realize we may not be able to implement some or all of these ideas this year, but it will give us a good head-start for 2009.” Entry is free and only requires an email to Deb Penner explaining the concept. Loewen says “Since everything is free at the Harvest Festival except for the food and Wonder Shows midway, we’ll choose the top three ideas and award each winner a Harvest Festival VIP pass. Each prize will include meal tickets at various vendors for all three days, plus wristbands to ride the midway all weekend. Entries should be sent to Deb Penner at cec@cityofwinkler.ca.
